In addition to informative seminars, the latest concrete technology and equipment was on display at the CFA Summer Convention. |
Every year we attend the Summer Conference put on by the Concrete Foundations Association of North America (CFA). This year’s meeting was in Sandusky, Ohio. These meetings give us the opportunity to stay on the leading edge of what is going on in our industry, as well as meet with other concrete contractors from around the country, many of whom have become our friends throughout the years.
The CFA is an organization made up of concrete foundation contractors throughout the United States who are industry leaders in each of their respective markets. Herbert Construction Co. has been a member of the CFA since 1991, and is the only poured wall contractor in Atlanta that is a member.
Ed Sauter (left), Executive Director of the CFA, presents the Project of the Year Award to Doug Herbert, who accepts it on behalf of all Herbert Construction Co. employees. |
At this year’s conference our company won the Project of the Year Award for Single Family Residence – less than 2000 square feet. This was for a project that we completed for Windsong Properties located in the Seven Hills Community in Cherokee County. This is our fourth year in a row winning a Project of the Year award from the CFA, and it is always a great honor.
The CFA does a great job of keeping its members up to date on news and best practices within our industry. In addition to a full day workshop on Codes and Standards, there were 12 seminars important to poured wall contractors, such as:
¨ Employer Law
¨ Pump safety
¨ Identifying problem areas in your business
¨ Lessons learned from a complicated project
¨ Are you unknowingly violating any price fixing laws
¨ Drug Testing – The traps and benefits of a Managed Program
The conference was held at the Kalahari Resort which features both an indoor and outdoor water park. We had an amazing time and returned home to Atlanta energized and refreshed and ready to construct even better basements!
