Summer is officially here! The kids are on their summer break and families are taking their summer vacations. The subdivision and neighborhood pools are full of children.
During the course of the summer, mothers will protect their children by applying gallons of sunscreen, inflating swim floaties multiple times, and by shouting “Don’t run near the pool!” more times than anyone could count.
We can control most of our summer activities to make them safe for our families. One of the things we cannot control is the weather.
We’ve had more than our share of thunderstorms and severe weather this year. A quick glance at any local lake will prove that. Mother Nature can, and has, thrown some pretty nasty weather our way. When it comes to severe weather-and especially tornadoes-there are few options for protecting yourself and your family unless you live in a home with a basement.
Tornado safety is the subject of our Feature Article this month. We talk about safe rooms in basements, freestanding storm shelters for people with existing homes, as well as above-grade concrete homes instead of traditional stick-frame homes.
If you have been thinking about how to protect your family and valuables from potential tornadoes, or if you’d like to offer your homebuyers an optional safe room, turn the page to read more.
I hope you are able to get out and enjoy your summer. When you do finally get to your vacation destination, try turning off your phone for a while and truly appreciate this time that you’ve worked so hard to attain.
Enjoy Your Summer,
